Basidiomycota

A large fungal phylum that consist of rusts, smuts, mushrooms, and puffballs. These species usually produce spores (meiospores) attached to the tip of swollen hyphae called basidium. Exceptions to this are rusts and smuts which do not produce obvious fruiting bodies.
