Description of Test
Enumeration and detection of aerobic mesophilic bacteria present in cosmetics.

Products that can be tested

Cosmetics deemed suitable by microbiological risk analysis. Not all may be suited to this protocol eg. water immiscible products.

Scope

  • Colonies are counted on a non-selective agar medium after aerobic incubation of the plate at 32,5°C ± 2,5°C for 72 ± 6h
  • TVC's are enumerated by plate count
  • The number of colony forming units (CFU) are counted and the number of aerobic mesophilic bacteria per millilitre or per gram of product are calculated

Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the tested product can be labelled as having been tested by airmid to ISO 21149:2009 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.
