BS EN 1275:2005

Description of Test
Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics. Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of basic fungicidal or basic yeasticidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics.

Products that can be tested
Active substances (antifungal biocides) and formulations under development that are planned to be used in food, industrial, domestic, institutional, medical and veterinary areas

Scope

  • A predetermined concentration of Aspergillus niger or Candida albicans is used as the test organism.
  • The fungal species of interest is exposed to the fungicidal agent and is exposed to a concentration of ≤ 80% of the neat test solution at a temperature of 20 ± 1°C for 15 minutes. Other temperatures may be used in line with the standard 4°C, 10°C or 40°C as well as other contact times of 1, 5, 30 or 60 minutes if required.
  • At the endpoint the fungicidal activity is neutralised, and a series of serial dilutions is performed.
  • The number of viable colony forming units is ascertained using the pour plate method and the fungicidal activity is calculated as a function of the viability of bacteria at the start of contact time.

Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the tested product can be labelled as having been tested by airmid to BS EN 1275:2005 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.

Turnaround Time
4 weeks from receipt of samples
