BS EN 1040:2005
Description of Test
Chemical disinfectants and antispetics. Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of basic bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics.
Products that can be tested
Active substances (antibacterial biocides) and formulations under development that are planned to be used in food, industrial, domestic, institutional, medical and veterinary areas
Scope
- A predetermined concentration of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and/or Staphylococcus aureus is used as the test microorganism.
- The bacteria are exposed to the bactericidal agent at a concentration of ≤ 80% of the neat test solution at a temperature of 20 ± 1°C for 5 minutes.
- At the end of contact time, an aliquot of the mixture is withdrawn and analysed for the presence of viable bacteria.
- The bactericidal activity is calculated as a function of the viability of bacteria at the start of contact time.
Third Party Validation
On passing this test, the tested product can be labelled as having been tested by airmid to BS EN 1040:2005 in support of any claim relating to the test and data received.
Turnaround Time
4 weeks from receipt of samples
The quality of the third party data we received from airmid helped us showcase our innovative strategy of licensing this novel technology at a prestigious international scientific event, the European Innovation Convention. Ultimately this will allow us add value and differentiate our customer offerings through a focus on health and indoor air quality.
